Some more news from Scott

I just got back from spending two days in Chapel Hill, where the big university is. They have a first rate research library so every now and then I go there to use the library. It is also a very pretty college town with some nice restaurants and stores. It even has a Cuban restaurant but I haven't eaten there yet.

An extra added bonus was the weather was perfect. Bright and sunny, but a bit chilly. On my way back I stopped off in Greensboro to see a friend of mine who is the Medieval historian at UNC-Greensboro.

Laura is working today and having a big church program called "Porque Catholico" or "Why Catholic." I think she going to lead the discussion in Spanish. I am going off with the Quigleys and Curtis to see "300" - the comic book movie version of the Battle of Thermopylae (the one where 300 Spartans got wiped out).

Next Friday we will leave for Tampa and will be there in time for Laura's birthday. So we will see everybody then.

Update on the New Blogger

I am still getting used to the new computer and software. I am still waiting to discover all the advantages to Windows Vista. Seems to be pretty much like my old Windows95 with a few new bugs to frustrate users. But - it's the reason why Bill Gates is the richest man on the planet.

In the meantime, if anyone is still having trouble making posts to Jessee's Place let me know. If you haven't had trouble yet it probably means you haven't tried to post anything yet!

So go ahead and try, and get in touch if you are having problems. Elizabeth said she had trouble - anybody else?

So far the best feature for me on the new blogger is the spell check.

Meghan Did It!!

Well, we had been talking about it for some time now and Meghan finally decided to get her hair cut. I'm not quite sure it looked like she had imagined and it was probably a little shorter than she was thinking but....I think it looks great and she will be able to take care of it by herself, which was the main reason for cutting it. She is donating her poney tail to Locks of Love. Here are some pictures of the cutting and the final product.

Well we shall see if this new blog version works. I think I spelt my name Jacki but you all know that it is me. Meghan is here with me while Elizabeth does laundry. We all went to Dingfielder's(running again for City Council) Neighborhood BBQ at the Garden Center. Art is feeling much better and would be really feeling good if he hadn't gone to Home Depot to get flowers and being the good guy helped a women by carrying her 5o lb bag of something to her care Wasn't doing well that evening. Lookingforward to seing Scott & Laura. I got one of the Civil War picture with Thomas in the lead mouse pad. Very impressive. Take care.

Some news of our friend Maggie

Most of you know who Maggie is, our little friend we visited in Ireland who lives just up the mountain from us. When I blog about her I call her Maeread, the Irish form of Margaret. It looks like she will become a big sister sometime before too long. Mary and Martin are talking about adopting a baby boy from Vietnam. There is still a lot of paperwork to go through, and then they will have to fly to Vietnam to pick up the baby, but we are beginning to think it will actually happen. Mary, who loves to cook, has already memorized the Vietnamese cookbook. Maggie is almost our grandchild, so we are both excited. When Laura first heard the news she blurted out "Oh good. Another child for us to spoil!"

We even mentioned the possibility of going with them to Vietnam, but that might be too much.

Will be in Tampa soon

I am enjoying my sabbatical immensely and getting a lot of research done. That means I am reading a lot of books. Sometimes I take notes. After I read a stack of books I will take my few notes and try to write something coherent about the eleventh century. Don't laugh - it keeps me busy and convinces me that the fifteen years I spent in graduate school weren't completely wasted.

Laura and I are coming down to Tampa on 16 March and should be there by the 17th, which is Laura's birthday. So you all have only a couple of weeks to brace yourself. Laura wants to be there for a week of so while her sister Diana is recovering from her radiation treatment.

We will, I assume, bring Leo the Lummox as usual, and of course will try to bring him to Mother's so she can spoil him and Meghan can go wild.

No one has been posting for awhile - let everyone know what is going on.

The New Blogger Account is up and running!

Over on Not Mayberry I have explained that I got a new computer, DSL service through our phone company, the modem, filters, etc. Took awhile but now I am all hooked up and able to get on the internet. No more glacially slow dial up.

So I went ahead and upgraded to the new blogger program for Jessee's Place because I couldn't sign on any more until I did do. The next time any of you sign on to post on Jessee's Place you will be asked to move to the new blogger. All you need to do is use your e-mail address for your user name and dream up a password.

I am still going to be using AOL for a month or two before pulling the plug on it, so my old e-mail address will work until then. For most of you I will try to send you an e-mail with my new address, or you can send me a message and I'll reply.
